Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Barnið ("the app", "we", "us") collects when you use it, why, and who it's shared with. Barnið is a baby-tracking app that helps parents and other caregivers log and share a baby's sleep, feeding, nappy changes, and appointments.
Who this policy is about
Barnið is used by adults (parents, guardians, and other caregivers) to record care information about a baby. The app is not directed at children, does not knowingly collect information directly from children, and does not offer any account or interface for a child to use directly. The baby's information (name, birth date, and care logs) is entered and controlled by the adult account holder(s) who care for that baby.
Information we collect
- Account identity: when you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive the identifier and (if you allow it) name/email that provider gives us, so we can create your account. You can also use the app anonymously as a guest without providing any identity information.
- Baby profile: the name and birth date you enter for each baby you track.
- Care logs: sleep sessions, feeding/bottle/pump entries, nappy changes, and appointments you record, including their timestamps and any notes you add.
- Sharing/household data: which guardians have access to a given baby's data, via the invite-code sharing feature.
- Subscription status: whether your household has an active Barnið Premium subscription, managed through Apple's In-App Purchase system.
- Usage analytics: anonymous, non-identifying feature-usage events — for example, that a feed, sleep, or nappy change was logged (and its category, such as "bottle" or "nap"), that a screen was viewed, that a subscription paywall was shown, or that a sync error occurred (and its general type). These events never include your name, your baby's name, free-text notes you've written, dates of birth, invite codes, or any other personal content — only fixed, non-identifying category labels and counts. See below for how this is used.
We use a privacy-first, first-party analytics tool (Aptabase) to understand which features people actually use and to catch bugs, so we can make the app better — not to advertise to you. This is for our own internal product decisions only: it is never shared with or sold to advertisers or data brokers, and it is never combined with your account identity or any other company's data about you. Because this analytics use is first-party (our own app talking to our own analytics project) and is never used to link your activity with other companies' apps or websites for advertising or ad-measurement purposes, it falls outside Apple's definition of "tracking," and we do not show an App Tracking Transparency prompt for it.
Who we share information with
- Other guardians you invite: a baby's care data is visible to every guardian who has been added to that baby via an invite code — this is a core feature of the app (sharing a baby's care record between parents/caregivers), not a third party.
- Supabase, Inc.: our backend infrastructure provider, which hosts the app's database, authentication, and file storage on our behalf. Supabase processes data only to provide this hosting service to us and does not use it for its own purposes.
- Apple and Google: used solely as sign-in identity providers, if you choose Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. Apple also processes payment/subscription information as the payment processor for In-App Purchases; we never see or store your payment card details.
- Aptabase: our analytics provider, which processes the anonymous, non-identifying usage events described above on our behalf. Aptabase does not receive your name, your baby's name, or any other personal or health-related information, and does not use this data for advertising or share it with third parties.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is retained for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete account. Deleting your account removes your authentication record and your baby profiles (for any baby where you are the only guardian); if a baby is shared with other guardians, their access and the baby's record continue for them after you leave.
Your choices
- You can use the app as an anonymous guest without creating a named account.
- You can revoke a guardian's access to a baby at any time from Settings.
- You can delete your account and data at any time from Settings.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time via your Apple ID subscription settings.
Children's privacy
Barnið is not directed at children and is not intended to be used by children. It is a tool for adults to record care information about a child in their care. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
